The Elder and Sister Wells Moving Company
With one of the missionary apartments closed and another opened in its place, we've been moving! Here's the overview:
1. Set up the new Taiping Elders apartment - haul furniture from the storage unit to the new apartment.
2. Move the Dakeng Elders and the Taiping Elders into the new Taiping Elders apartment.
3. Move the Dongying Sisters furniture into the Taiping Elders apartment.
4. Move the (3) Dongying Sisters into the (former) Dakeng Elders apartment.
5. Cleanup and close the Dongying Sisters apartment.
Of course, there was repairing broken furniture, hooking up plumbing, and many other tasks associated with this move, which was mostly done with our mission van, so it took LOTS of trips back and forth (always depending on GPS and our faithful navigator Sister Wells), and the fun of parking double or finding a spot, which is very difficult in Taichung. Suffice it to say that we came home completely beat every day (and that includes Saturday, our P-Day)! Now, we're almost done, with just some loose ends, such as disposing of dead mattresses, etc. to finish up.
Last Saturday, we visited the "Jade Market" with the Turners. Unfortunately, the Jade Market was closed due to Covid, but there were several nearby curio shops that were open. We enjoyed one in particular, where the proprietor was very happy to show us the wonderful items he collects and sells. Of course, most everything was too large or heavy or fragile to carry home to Utah, so we didn't buy anything. We'll try the Jade Market again after the Covid restrictions are lifted.
Another recent development was the repair of the air conditioner in our apartment! Friday, we got a brand new indoor/outdoor unit which cools our main room very nicely. We're very happy about that, since we've got plenty of hot summer days ahead!
Today, we had the privilege to speak in the Wuquan 1st Ward, on "Eternal Marriage." The meeting was held virtually, so we spoke from our dining room. The ward provided a translator for my talk. Sister Wells did a wonderful job and I got through it. (Note from the author's companion - he gave the talk that the Bishop wanted - doctrinal stuff!)
We had the Sisters over again, for two Sacrament Meetings in our living room. After I administer the Sacrament, the Sisters give a nice spiritual message, usually a thought from a conference talk, which we always enjoy. Here's our Sacrament setup:
Finally, today is Father's Day (a day ahead of the celebration in the US), and I had nice calls from some of our children. That was definitely the highlight of the day! Also, this afternoon, we rode our bikes (in the rain) to the Turner's apartment where we shared a meal. We also played "Cover your Assets," a fun card game created by a church member. Sister Turner was the winner, but I made a respectable showing. Here we are in our rain gear, arriving at the Turner's:
